On Saturday, 4 July 2026, Hunter Christian Churches Football Association proudly held the Ian Pettigrew Round, bringing our football community together to support the incredible work of the Mark Hughes Foundation.
The round honours the memory of Ian Pettigrew, whose passion for football, service to the community, and commitment to Hunter Christian Churches Football left a lasting legacy.
Ian was a long-standing member of the Association, serving in a number of leadership roles over many years, including as a committee member, President and Life Member. His dedication helped shape HCCF into the community-focused competition it is today, and his love of football, fellowship and serving others continues to inspire our Association. Following his passing after a courageous battle with brain cancer, HCCF established the Ian Pettigrew Round as an opportunity to remember his contribution while supporting others facing the same disease.
The Mark Hughes Foundation was established in 2014 by former Newcastle Knights player Mark Hughes after his own diagnosis with brain cancer. The Foundation raises vital funds for brain cancer research, increases awareness of the disease, and provides practical support for patients and their families. Since its inception, it has raised more than $30 million, funding groundbreaking research and support initiatives across Australia.
Community sport has a unique ability to unite people around causes that matter, and the Ian Pettigrew Round is a wonderful example of that spirit in action. Through the generosity of our clubs, players, referees, volunteers and supporters, we are proud to play a small part in helping create hope for those affected by brain cancer.
Hunter Christian Churches Football would like to sincerely thank every club and individual who contributed to this year's round. Whether through donations, fundraising activities or simply helping raise awareness, every contribution makes a difference.
As we remember Ian's legacy, we are reminded of the values he lived by—service, generosity, friendship and community. We hope that the Ian Pettigrew Round will continue to honour his memory for many years to come while supporting the ongoing fight against brain cancer.
